Today is the annual celebration for the Greek letter, Pi. The symbol, π , represents the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
Pi Day is celebrated around the world on March 14 because Pi = 3.1415926535… (get it?). And I didn’t realize this but it’s also Albert Einstein’s birthday. The U.S. House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day in 2009.
Math and science are incredibly important topics that are getting a fair amount of focus. A recently study from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development indicates that the U.S. lags behind other countries in math and science. This comes into play when we talk about the skills gap in our workforce. So if there’s an opportunity to learn some math and have a little fun…I’m all for it.
So check out this Pi rap video, enjoy some pie and celebrate pi!

Thank for posting this, Sharlyn. I couldn’t figure out what the reason/deal was for Pi Day. I guess by this comment you can tell that I’m a pie EATER, not a pie calculator. 🙂

Hi Nancy. I think a pie calculator would be pretty cool…

Well, I love math and “PIE” is a challenge for me at the start but then again I enjoy it ’til then…

Thanks for the comment Katrine. I’m a math geek too. And any opportunity to eat pizza “pie”…I’m in!
