Quick Shots for #HR and Business Pros – #SHRM15 Edition

SHRM, Society for Human Resource Management, HR, conference

It’s hard to believe that the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Annual Conference was almost a month ago. How time flies! As always there was plenty to see and do in Las Vegas. There’s never enough time to chat with everyone and trying to decide which educational sessions to attend is always a challenge. But I had a great time and certainly look forward to next year in Washington, D.C.

The big news during the conference was the U.S. Department of Labor’s proposed changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act. We’ve written about those changes over the past couple weeks. I hope you will take a moment to review the information. It’s important and impacts the work we do.

Right before leaving for SHRM, I found a post on Blogging4Jobs. It includes the latest White House Resource Guide to Hiring People with Disabilities. A terrific resource to download and share.

Since I’ve been back from SHRM, I’ve seen close to a dozen articles about the labor market shift to being candidate-driven. Very fascinating reading with solid numbers to back them up. These articles paint a picture of how we can expect to spend our time in the months to come.

So it looks like HR pros will continue to have a full-plate of strategies and initiatives to develop and implement. Which means we have to figure out how to find time for ourselves. We can’t help our organizations be successful if we’re not at our best. Let us know what you do to decompress. It would be great to try out some new things!
