Never Mess With an Employee’s Paycheck – Friday Distraction

People who are part of the payroll process have a tough job. There’s an expectation that payroll will be processed perfectly. Not within a margin of error. Perfectly! Employees expect to see exactly what they have earned. I’ve never heard an employee say, “Well, if I get 90% of what I earned, then I’m happy.” No – they want it all.

And frankly, that’s not an unrealistic expectation. They’ve earned it.

Today’s Time Well Spent cartoon from our friends at Kronos is a reminder that we need to get payroll right. Employees will tolerate the boring parts of their job. They will go with the flow with their manager’s quirkiness. And they’ll even forgive the company when it screws up.

Just don’t mess with an employee’s paycheck.

Time Well Spent, cartoon, Kronos, paychecks, payroll, perfectly, mistakes, error, fix

Organizations need to create payroll processes that have checks and balances in place so, hopefully, mistakes are caught before they happen. But the other piece of the process needs to be having a responsive way of dealing with errors when they do occur. We’re human; mistakes will happen. Part of the perfection is correcting payroll errors quickly. So the employee who does mistakenly get paid 90% of what they’re owed says, “Yes, there was a mistake, but I know the company will fix it asap.”
