Are QR Codes Still Relevant [poll]

QR codes (aka quick response codes) are a matrix barcode that stores data and information. According to Wikipedia, they were first designed for the automotive industry in Japan. With the popularity of smart devices, QR codes have been used for a variety of activities. Here are a few ways I’ve seen QR codes used:

At a conference, I forgot to download the conference app. A sign near registration reminded me. A quick scan of the QR code and the conference app was installed.

A sales person wanted to give me their company’s latest research. A QR code was on their business card, allowing me immediate access to the information.

At a networking event, participants were asked to join in a photo scavenger hunt: taking photos of items on a list for points. Really fun game. We signed up and got the instructions by scanning a QR code.

While I don’t use QR codes daily, I can see where they come in handy. Then I saw this image on my LinkedIn page (my apologies – I don’t know where it came from):

Based upon the number of “likes” along with a few “Amen” and “Hallelujah”, I get the impression that the QR code is today’s version of an 8-track player. Now, I’m curious…
