Phasing In Your Affordable Care Plan Strategy – #ACA

I know there’s been quite a few “delays” announced with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) but it doesn’t mean we can stop thinking about it.

In fact, it reminds me of my hospitality days and a term “soft opening”. That’s when a place opens without a lot of fanfare and lets employees get used to the operation before an official grandiose opening. By then, many of the new-business bugs have been worked out, employees are ready for lots of people, and the grand opening goes well.

Today’s Time Well Spent cartoon from our friends at Kronos reminds me why soft openings can make sense. We can phase things in gradually and don’t have to stress out – at least quite as much.

There’s an old quote from U.S. General Creighton Abrams, “When eating an elephant, take one bite at a time.” It’s a good reminder to take large tasks and break them into smaller pieces. These ACA delays might be exactly what organizations need for long-term success.
