Business Issues, Not HR Programs

I had a couple of firsts that I wanted to share with you. First, this post is being written on my iPad – a first for me. The other one is that I attended my first “users conference” in Las Vegas last week.

Ultimate Software generously invited me to attend their Connections 2012 event. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. One might think it’s just a demonstration on the best way to use their products. But that proved to be wrong.

The event showcased real-life challenges that business professionals face and how to deal with those challenges. For example, I had the opportunity to hear Thomas Otter from Gartner Research talk about workforce analytics. And Lisa Sterling, director of people engagement at Ultimate Software discussed future trends in talent management. Both emphasized the point of talent being a business imperative not just an HR process.

I wrote a couple of guest posts about these presentations over on the Ultimate Software blog. And plan to write a few more about everything I learned at the event. I hope you’ll check them out.
