The New “F” Word – Blog Action Day 2011

I’m not a big fan of the f- word in conversation.  Seems to me there are better ways to express yourself than f- this and f- that.  That isn’t to say that the f- word has never crossed my lips.  But on those rare occasions when it does, it’s usually when there’s only one way to describe it – F@%K!

That’s why I’m writing about the f- word today.  It’s Blog Action Day 2011.  Since starting HR Bartender, I’ve participated in several Blog Action Days, writing about water, climate change, and poverty.  This year’s topic is food – also an f- word but one I don’t mind talking about.

Which leads me to the real obscenity we should be talking about – Famine.  The Horn of Africa is experiencing its worst drought in 60 years.  More than 11 million people worldwide are lacking access to food.  In Somalia alone, 30,000 children have died in the past three months.

Recently a group of celebrities and public figures released a public service announcement titled, “The F Word: Famine is the Real Obscenity.”

The ONE Campaign isn’t looking for money.  They are hoping the public will donate their voices by signing a petition and sharing information.  To learn more about how you can make a difference, visit the ONE website.

Today I’m making an exception and using the f- word.  Won’t you too?
