Using Passport to Accelerate Your Recruiting Efforts

(Editor’s Note: This post is sponsored by TheLadders.  A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of interviewing Co-Founder and Company President Alex Douzet.  At the end, I asked if I could learn more about their latest offering for recruiters, Passport.  Here’s the follow-up.)

My last corporate job before starting my own company was in what I would call a “regular office”.  This means it operated pretty much on banker’s hours.  Prior to that, I’d always worked in 365/24/7 operations.  I worked weekends, holidays, my birthday, etc.  For someone coming from the hustle of the hospitality industry, the experience was kind of surreal.

Besides the whole change of pace in the working environment, there was a change in the types of positions I needed to recruit for.  Basically, job requisitions fell into two categories:  non-exempt administrative staff or exempt professional staff.  Both were important.  Everyone knows your administrative team can make or break you.  I learned a lot about the differences in recruiting for each.

Recruiting for high-level, executive staff is a unique process. We have different expectations of our executive team and look for different skills and experience.  I remember the times I’ve recruited for senior leadership positions and some of the resumes I received from a variety of job boards.  Applicants applying for vice president positions with their last job being a barista.  Again, being a barista is a good job and it’s important.  But it’s not the same as vice president – and it wasn’t what we were looking for.

Not only is recruiting senior level positions different from a recruiter standpoint, but I believe candidates at an executive level expect a different process as well.  I don’t recall ever asking a CFO candidate if they were able to work nights, weekends and holidays during the interview process.  Nor did they expect me to.

It’s exactly because of these differences in hiring executives that TheLadders.com exists.  They understand hiring executives is unique and have filled the need by creating a community of 4 million members all vetted to have met their key criteria: $100,000 minimum salary, employment history, etc.  In fact, TheLadders shared with me that the average person in the network earns $172,000.  And 70% of the participants in the network are currently employed.

In addition, individuals in TheLadders network are committed.  In order to participate, they make a small financial commitment.  If you think about it, don’t we ask our executive team to put more skin in the game?  Sure we do.  Being a member of TheLadders network demonstrates a willingness to make an investment into their own career.

Recruiter AshishKaushal with Creative Solutions Services, a global executive search firm focused on finding senior-level talent for the financial services, marketing and sales and technology industries, says signing up for TheLaddersPassport has helped him tremendously.  “Because we recruit for various fields, we need to reach a wide range of executive level candidates.  TheLadders’ Passport enabled us to attract these people, particularly at the senior level in financial services.”

Passport is TheLadders new solution that allows recruiters to post executive positions for free.  You can also use their social recruiting tool, My Pipeline™, to send out instant alerts about your job and attract interested, engaged candidates to your postings.  Yep, it’s that simple.  Post a position for free and begin to immediately attract and screen candidates within the network.

Kaushal also shared the results his company has seen using Passport.  “TheLadders gave us a higher percentage of suitable, quality applicants than anywhere else – the candidates were exceptional.  And, you don’t have to waste time weeding through a lot of resumes – the interface is so easy to use.”

Doing a targeted search requires targeted results.  We all know it’s not about quantity.  Getting 200 barista resumes for one vice president opening isn’t a good use of a recruiter’s time.  What makes sense is being able to easily post a position, at no cost, to a qualified and engaged candidate pool that will help you to fill the position quickly with just the right person.

Isn’t that what recruiting all about?  Finding the right candidate quickly at the lowest cost per hire possible?  If you want to see how Passport can help your organization like it did for Creative Solutions Services, you can sign up for free right here.  Or connect with TheLadders via their website, Facebook page, Twitter account and LinkedIn profile for more information.

And, if you are attending the SHRM Annual Conference in Las Vegas later this month, be sure to stop by TheLadders booth 1346 and talk with them directly about their Passport product and how it can help you achieve your recruiting goals.
