A Couple Clouds For Groundhog Day
Today in the United States and Canada it’s the holiday called Groundhog Day. It’s origin is in ancient European weather lore where a badger (as opposed to a groundhog) offers some sort of weather prognostication.
The largest celebration in the U.S. takes place in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania where people eagerly wait in anticipation of seeing Punxsutawney Phil (a groundhog) step outside his little burrow. If he sees his shadow, it’s predicted we will have six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, good news – the weather should start to improve earlier. At least . . . that’s the theory.
I certainly hope, for the sake of all my Northern friends, that the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow. So to celebrate (hopefully) the end to all of the nasty weather, here are the drink recipes for a Blue Cloud and a White Cloud. Keep the clouds coming and there won’t be a shadow to be found.
And just in case we’re not so lucky and Phil sees his shadow, you can commiserate with a Black Shadow or a Dark Shadow. Maybe it will help us forget all the snow.
