Valentine’s Day 2010

Valentine’s Day is this weekend.  We know it as a holiday to celebrate love and affection.  Of course, Mr. Bartender and I will have a nice dinner.  And being the geeky couple we are, we’re giving each other CPUs.  Yep, his and hers computer hard drives.  Can’t say we’re not romantic.  Ha!

But I also like celebrating Valentine’s Day with my friends and family.  People who love me and support me regardless of what crazy idea I’m pursing at the time.  One of my favorite places to find little trinkets of affection for them is Etsy.

If you’re not familiar with Etsy, it’s “a place to buy and sell all things handmade.”  Artisans of every kind can be found on Etsy – candles, jewelry, art, handbags, you name it.  When I think of Valentine’s, the first thing that comes to mind is the tender loving care that each person puts into making something and posting it on the Etsy site.

Also, don’t make the assumption that Etsy is only for the ladies.  Josh Catone, features editor at Mashable, recently wrote a post about great gift ideas for the guys in your life.  Check it out here.

So if you’re looking for something unique, check out Etsy for some ideas.  I’ll warn you in advance…it can be addictive!
