Live from SHRM 09 – Day 3

As it can often happen during a conference, my days are starting to run together…that’s the sign of a truly great event.  You forget the outside world and become totally immersed in the learning experience.  Tuesday was just jammed with great connections…

Session Soundbite

John Kotter was the day’s keynote session.  He’s a super smart guy from Harvard – shared his thoughts this morning on leadership and change.  I was impressed with his thought processes…but the overhead projector [Wikipedia link included for anyone under 40] he used has got to go.

Sorry – just something in-congruent about talking on the topic of change while using that antiquated piece of equipment.

Expo Highlight

I got to meet Tara at Beyond.com.  It was great to meet a fellow alum of the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!) and learn more about the services that Beyond.com provides.

Swag of the Day

The expo closed in the afternoon.  I didn’t find any jump drives.  But I did get a very cool hub port from Pretia.  Overall, I was pretty pleased with my accomplishments re: swag goals.

Foodie Spotlight

Besides trying Starbucks Perfect Oatmeal for the first time (it’s really good!),  I want to share with you some info about a restaurant I went to over the weekend – Dante’s Kitchen.  It was a bit of a schlep by cab but, oh, so worth it.  Service was awesome.

If you like infused liquors, this is a place for you.  They have a seasonal mojito – this time of year it’s called the Black and Blue (with blackberries and blueberries).  I also want to recommend the escargot appetizer.  If I could have licked the bowl without embarrassing myself…I would have.  Seriously. That’s how good it was.

You Made My Day Award

My sincere thanks to Lance, Mike, Carmen, Franny, April, Matt, Jessica, Ben and everyone else who came to my session.  Your support is genuinely touching.  Words just can’t express how cool it was to have the Twitterati there.  You guys are simply amazing.

Those are the high points from the day.  Wednesday is the much awaited bloggers panel.  I know I’m looking forward to it.
