Hiring Plans

A new survey from Robert Half International and CareerBuilder brings great news from the job front.

It says that 53% of employers expect to hire full-time employees over the next 12 months while 40% will hire contract, temporary or project professionals.  39% will add part-time employees.  Technology, customer service and sales are the top areas where employers expect to add jobs first.

For people considering their next opportunity, this means you need to get your A-game together.  Polish up that resume, update your LinkedIn profile, take that class you’ve been putting off, etc.  Honestly, you should be doing this all the time…but just in case the procrastination fairy stopped by your house, this is my reminder to kick it into gear.

And for organizations, it means start planning your recruiting strategy (if, of course, you haven’t already.)  Finding good people doesn’t happen overnight.  With the popularity of social media, think about incorporating SM tools into your recruiting strategy.  Companies are using LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter more than ever in their marketing efforts so start now developing an online presence and building relationships for those future openings.

My latest post over at Mashable, talks specifically about “HOW TO: Leverage Twitter for Hiring”.  It offers up some examples about how businesses are using Twitter to promote job openings.  I hope you’ll check it out.

And, thanks to all of you for supporting HR Bartender.  I’m really so appreciative!
