Black Napkins and Beignets

As you probably know, I’m in New Orleans for the next few days speaking at the SHRM Annual Conference.  One of the best things about New Orleans is the food and I would be negligent in my conference coverage if I didn’t give you a few foodie highlights.

Friday night, I had dinner (along with my MAC buddies Rick Howell, Toni Knechtges, Nancy Newell and Dave Twitchell) at GW Fins.  It’s right in heart of the French Quarter and a seafood lover’s dream.  I knew I would love the restaurant immediately when they provided me with a black napkin because I was wearing dark pants (classy!)  They also had one of my fave wines – Coppola’s Claret at the bargain price of $38.  If you ever go, get the lobster ravioli appetizer –  just melts in your mouth.

On Saturday morning, we headed off to Café du Monde for our obligatory café au lait and beignets.  Lucky for us, there was no wait in line and we immediately snagged a table in the shade.  It’s ridiculously hot (even for this Florida girl) so we had iced café au lait.  But what else can I say?!  Café du Monde is an absolute must on any trip to NOLA.

Also on Saturday, we found a gem of a lunch spot near the convention center called Grand Isle.  Our server was incredible and very attentive.  I had a duck debris po-boy and it was to die for.  So much so that I might have to sneak in another trip before the conference is over.

Conference activities start tomorrow.  I went over to the convention center today to pick up my conference credentials.  It’s very exciting to watch the event start coming together.

P.S. Don’t forget – you still have a chance to win my Sheryl Crow ticket for the Tuesday night party. Just leave a post here to be entered. The winner will be chosen at Noon on Sunday, June 28 . . I guar-an-tee!
