Wine That Loves

During a recent trip, I was catching up on my reading and stumbled across an article for a wine called Wine That Loves.  It’s kinda like Garanimals but for wine.  The labels are identified with the food item the wine should be paired with.  For example – Wine That Loves Grilled Salmon.

I was intrigued.  Typically, I subscribe to the ‘drink what you like‘ theory but decided to give Wine That Loves a test drive.  So I purchased three bottles to put them to the test and share my thoughts with you.  (Note to self:  Check with accountant to see if wine is tax-deductible when you blog about it.)

The first taste was Wine That Loves Grilled Steak.  We were ready to grill a choice piece of beef when Mother Nature decided to put a damper on our plans.  So we broiled it instead…I didn’t think the difference between grilling and broiling would be extreme.  But maybe it was because Mr. Bartender and I were less than impressed.  However the next night, we finished off the wine with a couple of grilled brats and it was perfecto!

Our second try was Wine That Loves Pasta with Tomato Sauce.  I was running late from a client meeting and had no time to fix dinner.  So spaghetti and jar tomato sauce was the plan.  Yes, I realize some of you are wondering how a foodie could do such a thing, but sometimes…you gotta do what ya gotta do.  For such a basic meal, the wine was terrific.  This one had a lot more body than the steak lover, um, varietal mentioned above.

The last taste was Wine That Loves Roasted Chicken.  Since we’d discovered with the first two wines that being literal with the pairing didn’t always work out as planned, we paired the wine with chicken wrapped in prosciutto.  It was awesome.  This wine was a red (not a white)…light taste and a nice complement to the salty flavors in the prosciutto.

So if you’re tired or lazy and don’t want to research wine pairings, Wine That Loves could be a decent choice.  It’s also a perfect gift for those people who need a lot of help in the matching food and wine department.  Cheers!
