Giving Thanks

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving Day.  I enjoy Thanksgiving for several reasons:

The Food.  A couple weeks ago, I found a yummy looking recipe for pumpkin oatmeal.  It’s low fat and looks like a scrumptious way to start the holiday.

The Parade.  A must-watch is the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  To me, it marks the official start to my holiday season.  There’s nothing like listening to high school bands play “Dream On” and watching huge balloons of cartoon characters (most of which I don’t recognize anymore) to get you in the spirit.

The Food.  Turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy.  It’s just doesn’t get any better than that.  And, I don’t mind cooking the turkey.  Mr. Bartender says I make a very nice bird.

The FootballDallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions…they’ve made it a tradition to play on Thanksgiving.  And, I’ve made it a tradition to watch.

The Wine.  We pair our turkey feast with the latest Beaujolais nouveau.  The wine is released on the third Thursday in November each year, just in time for enjoyment with our Thanksgiving spread.

And, did I mention the food?  Because Thanksgiving dinner leftovers are the best!  Turkey soup, turkey sandwiches, turkey pot pie, turkey quesadillas, etc.  I am on a tryptophan-induced haze for the entire weekend.

Seriously folks, while I enjoy Thanksgiving Day for all of these reasons.  I really cherish the day because I’m with my family.  I’m fortunate to have a home and food to share with my friends.  I’m healthy and my family is healthy.  And, I live in a country that allows me to speak my mind (like in this blog) and that wonderful people (like you) choose to read and comment about it.

Thank you for being a part of my holiday.  Cheers!
