We’ve all heard the old saying “You Never Get a Second Chance to Make a First Impression.” Today’s infographic from Jobvite is a reminder that the saying still rings true.
I found the data about negative reactions to be particularly interesting. While 47% of recruiters had a negative reaction to pictures of potential employees consuming alcohol, 54% frown on poor grammar and spelling errors in posts on social sites. And 61% react negatively to profanity.
On the plus side, volunteerism is viewed positively along with membership in professional organizations. I don’t want to spoil the graphic by sharing all the details…so check it out for yourself.

Hi! I'm Sharlyn Lauby, an HR pro turned consultant. I created the HR Bartender blog so people would have a friendly place to discuss workplace issues. And since, over the years, I've developed an appreciation for the culinary arts (translation: I'm a Foodie) you'll see some of that here too. So, pull up a stool and order your favorite drink . . . the bar is always open.

Great information there, I have always wondered the right way to go about this, thanks for showing me! Some of them points are really straight forward but all too often you will over look them.

Sharlyn, First impressions do matter. Especially in the HR environment. Why sabotage your chances with a negative social media image? Great post.
Thanks for the comment Mike!
