I hear ya. I know money is tight and we all have a full plate. But when we know about legislation before it's enacted...then we can impact it. Otherwise, we are just reacting to it.

Hopefully businesses are tuned into pending legislation (there's alot of it) and making sure their HR person/team is on top of what's happening. It was surprising for me to hear about some of the new things (i.e. possible worklife balance legislation?)

I don't think there are any safe jobs anymore. Nurses, doctors, police officers -- lots of positions that have historically been considered invulnerable to economic downturn are no longer protected. Even if a service is needed, you can't retain people if there's no money to pay them.

Lot of law firms are laying off too, I remain appalled at the high volume of HR people who remain unaware of issues like labor law reform

Do you think it's due to more information available online? I often wonder if the world spends more time behind their computer when they use to go to more. Are people becoming more comfortable with google search? I hope people continue to engage with people in person as well as virtually ....

Maybe it's the "can't afford it and get away from the office" reason. I know that I was floored at all of the changes coming along, and many people are going to be caught with their pants down if they aren't careful!
