The latest Leadership Development Carnival is up over at Mountain State University’s LeaderTalk blog and the theme is Endurance. It’s really very fitting because, as leaders, our endurance is being tested every day. Whether it’s personal or professional, we’re constantly faced with some sort of challenge. And, it’s our role to process these difficulties and find ways to move forward. While all the time, still accomplishing our goals and objectives.
Becky Robinson and the folks over at MSU’s School of Leadership and Professional Development deserve huge kudos for organizing this carnival. And my thanks for including HR Bartender on the list. I also have to say that Becky’s idea to include a TweepML of all the carnival contributors was pure brilliance. [Full disclosure: I’m so totally stealing this idea]
One of the things that impresses me about Mountain State University is how they’re enduring and reshaping the education field at the same time. Three great examples are their blog, Facebook page, and Twitter. How many of the colleges and universities in your area are fully engaging in social media? Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to talk with many people in education and academics. I’ve always found it amazing when they define their customer as “everyone”. Well, if that’s really true…why don’t we see more institutions of higher learning on social media? Hmmm…something to ponder…
Also speaking of endurance, I would be terribly remiss if I didn’t mention my latest post over at Mashable. It’s on “5 Ways to Make Your Business More Transparent”. I truly believe the people and organizations that will endure these tough times are the ones that learn and embrace transparency. Business Week recently profiled several companies that are making transparency a part of their marketing strategy. It’s more than just the corporate buzzword du jour. There’s a fundamental shift taking place in the way business happens.
Companies need to be asking themselves: are we are building the infrastructure to endure?
