Are you looking for your next great opportunity? Maybe something better or even something new. Maybe you just need something, period. What if a friend came to you today and said there was a place in your town where you could talk with dozens of recruiters? And there would be folks from some of the greatest employers in the world. On top of that, there would be resources to help you…resume writing, interviewing, and personal branding. Oh, and you could talk and network with hundreds of colleagues. What if it was FREE to attend?
Earlier this week, I wrote a post about taking the JobAngels pledge to help one person find a job. After I published the post, it occurred to me that there’s a place where you can direct people. This place has:
- Hundreds of human resources professionals (i.e. recruiters, consultants and HR Pros)
- Dozens of Fortune 500 companies (like Ford, Home Depot, Kelly Services and Zappos)
- Tons of media resources like newspapers, magazines and television (as in CNN, The Today Show, and Workforce Management)
- Millions of business professionals including government (including President Obama…’nuf said)
If I were looking for a job (or any kind of opportunity for that matter), I’d want to make sure I was tapped into this place. I’d want to know what’s happening. What people are talking about. And, I’d want to get that info the moment it takes place. Not days later when it’s old news.
What’s this place you ask? Of course, I’m referring to Twitter.
Why not send your friends and colleagues the gift of information? If you’re using Twitter, send this to someone to help them get started. If you’re not on Twitter, I encourage you to give it a try. It does take a little getting used to, but it’s a great resource. And, it’s FREE.
I can’t think of a single person who couldn’t use a free resource for information, business opportunities, and job resources right now. Think about it. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Great post Bartender! Those of us who are already using Twitter to connect, share, learn, and help don’t need any more convincing, but we are still in the tiny minority. If any HR folks find there way here, and want to get started with Twitter, I humbly and shamelessly offer my little list of ‘Your First 100 Twitter Follows’ as a jumping off point.
Thanks for a writing another fantastic post.

Nice post -over in th UK, twitter has been “blessed” as mainstream by being used by the BBC to *cough* leak some information about strategic management changes

edit -I don’t know how you can “accidentally” post something on twitter also…

I continue to be amazed (and humbled) by the power of Twitter, social media and the likes and I say this knowing I am only just dipping my toes in the water so far. Great set of links Bartender!

Nice post HOUR Bartender. I work with clients (in the UK) on the recruitment strategies and processes etc
Just in the last week I have had two clients ask how they can use Twitter as a recruitment tool, because they ‘think it could work’
Good news for them that it does and I am currently integrating it into their process. Also the interest in ‘how to use
Twitter for business’ is increasing as well.
So if the Clients are starting to buy into this concept, then it is even better news for the job seekers.

Fantastic. Do you know that colleagues still laugh at me when I talk up Twitter. Ah well, I keep at it. 🙂
You are such a terrific writer. You bring it all together so nicely.
