Regarding recruiters looking at social profile pages, Kristee Dungee has this to say over Fistful of Talent: http://tinyurl.com/6qqr23. Your advice about creating a professional e-mail address may help mitigate some of the many privacy issues social media has brought about.

Not every recruiter surfs through pictures and wall-posts--I have heard many people (Jason Buss for example) say that looking at candidates' social profiles is something they hate doing, and will place little weight on. Still, I side with you and warn job seekers to er on the side of caution with all social media platforms...at least while you are looking for a job.

Better yet, there are cool new sites that facilitate open communication between employers and job seekers--JobFox has launched a new technology that gives the best candidates a "foot in the door"(find more info at http://tinyurl.com/679quo), while Yellojobs.com has created a social network for referrals and direct applications.

Social Media is transforming the way we communicate, and HR must keep pace. A more in depth discussion on the evolution of the recruiting industry can be found at http://tinyurl.com/5nmdkn.
