Nice. Gaylord Palms is suh-weet. But I really like your term "stay-cation". Now, I don't feel so bad for never having a real vacation in my life. I guess I kind of have had one.

Plus, it's such an effort to leave Florida. Just to arrive in.... ta-da! Georgia! Ugh!

To get anywhere cool you really have to do some serious driving, or fight the TSA bucket/bin war and smell everyone's dirty feet. No thanks.

Seriously, I've always purposely stayed home when everyone else (or seemingly everyone) goes "out". No travel on or around Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's. Pretty much be a homebody on July 4th, Memorial Day, and other such events. Friday night outings? Nah.

But catch me on a Tuesday and we can hang out and paint the town red all day. Less traffic. Less having to watch gawky teenager girls circle the parking lot driving the boy around as a passenger (I still don't get that). Less commotion in general.

Am I just getting to be old? Maybe, but I've been doing this pretty much since 21. Keep life simple. And now I have a name for it. "I'm having a Christmas Stay-cation". Love it. Thanks for the new term.

I know exactly what you mean! Recently I enjoyed a day trip to Florida City and many of it's agricultural stops. An awesome fruit stand (Robert is HERE) with the best shakes I've ever had (I don't like shakes by the way) was one of our stops while visiting Everglades National Park. It was worth the gas while still staying close enough to home.
